The
mass '90's London property boom drove artists
out West and Central London into London's
more working-class East End. The Nunnery
was born out of this mass exodus, and is
located m in a converted eighteenth-century
convent. The artist run gallery has shown
works such as "Alice (1998), which explored
notions of childhood; Re-grouping (2000),
which exhibited six new and established
contemporary painters, and Wreck of Hope
(2000), an exhibition of works by 35 contemporary
artists in response to Capar David Freidrich's
painting of the same name.. Over seventy
artists work in the studio complex ensuring
a huge amount of creative diversity..
