it also provides studio space and living
quarters for both British and foreign artists
who are allowed to stay at the Delfina for
up to 2 years free of charge. Many of the
artists who stay at the Delfina exhibit
in the gallery during their visit.
The
gallery was housed at the back of a chi-chi
restaurant in Bermondsey and gained a solid
reputation on the back of a number of successful
individual and group shows. Recently shows
have been taking place in a more industrial
space around the corner behind the new Tate.
That space was inaugurated with an exhibition
of Turner-Prize winner Steve McQueen. The
Delfina is one of the few alternative spaces
in London to have a wide-ranging international
agenda.
